Vishnu R

Vishnu R, is a Bangalore-based guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and instrument builder. Growing in a family of musicians, Vishnu studied music from a young age. He is currently the Director of eAmbalam, the World’s first Online College of Indian Classical Music and Dance. Vishnu has taught extensively through eAmbalam, focusing particularly on students in rural Tamil Nadu. Vishnu invented his own instrument called NAVTAR, a 9-string instrument with both fretless and fretted elements integrated into a single neck. The NAVTAR is prominently featured in Vishnu’s own compositions, which brings together elements of traditional Carnatic music and jazz. Vishnu continues to use music to fundraise and support numerous charities through performances Prakriti Festival, Urur Olcott Festival, and Justice Rocks, amongst others.
