Younes Kati is a self-taught drummer and percussionist from Algeria. By his late teens, Younes had already developed an affinity for a diverse range of drumming techniques, from West African to Latin American. Currently, Younes performs with El Foukr R’Assembly, a Trans-Saharan groove band featuring members from Ghana, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast. He has taught workshops through UAE’s Sharja Art Foundation recently won a grant to lead U.S.-based songwriting workshops in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Algeria. Younes believes strongly in the power of artistic and cultural exchange, and is currently planning to develop an arts residency space in his hometown of Bejaia dedicated to cross-cultural collaboration.
