Robby Bowen is a Brooklyn-based percussionist whose musical practice is an ongoing examination of the word “play.” Following years of classical training, Robby now prioritizes process-focused music making through free improvisation, experimental sound production, songwriting, teaching, and interdisciplinary exploration. With a curiosity for repurposing “junk” objects as instruments, his sonic palette is a mix of drumming, found sounds, processed samples, keyboards, and vocalizations. From Robby’s perspective, every object, person, and place has untapped musical potential, and this philosophy brings a sense of both compassion and humor to his work. Integrally linked with this outlook is a persistent advocacy for mental health awareness that deeply informs his work as an artist and teacher.
