Emilbek Uulu studied traditional kyl kyiak and komuz along with cello and western music at the Ustashakhirt Center of Traditional Music before entering the prestigious music program at Kurenkeev Kyrgyz State Music College. A member of the State Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra and the Bishkek-based Tenir Too Ensemble, Emilbek has toured extensively throughout Europe and Central Asia. His most recent collaborative work includes Playing Together and Bandistan Ensemble projects organized by US-based non-profit CEC ArtsLink and Uzebekistan’s Omnibus Ensemble supported by the US Department of State’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs. In addition to his touring and performance work, Emilbek teaches educational workshops with Muz Chyrak, a project for music and public school teachers organized by the Ustashakhirt Center.
