A former member of Itiberê Orquestra Família and Ramo group, Felipe José has performed all over Brazil and across Latin America, Europe and Asia. He currently serves as the musical director of Coletivo Distante and works as composer for theater, dance and video, as well as instrumentalist in various music strands. “The meeting of different tunings, practices and styles can be a way to reconcile differences”, says Felipe, who is equally steeped in early 20th century concert music and modern avant-garde bandleaders like Hermeto Pascoal and John Zorn. As an educator and cultural activist, Felipe José is heavily involved with “Cine no Muro”, a crossborder artistic program runned in underprivileged neighborhoods in São João del Rey, Brazil.
