Alkistis Misouli is a Greek-Cypriot violist whose performing spans classical music, Greek folk, jazz, improvisation and sound collage. Growing up, Alkistis was a member of the Greek-Turkish Youth Orchestra, Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra and European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and gained professional experience with Athens State Orchestra, Greek National Opera and Armonia Atenea before going on to study classical viola in the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Alkistis has studied with well known classical and jazz artists such as Sven Arne Tepl, Nobuko Imai, Richard Ayres, Ben van Gelder and Jasper Blom and has been featured as a soloist with Athens Municipality Symphonic Orchestra and others. As a composer, Alkistis is interested in exploring conflict and the nuance of human relationships through interdisciplinary and socially engaged works. Currently completing her Masters in Improvisation at Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Alkistis had her composition ”I Love You” premiered in Muziekgebouw aant’IJ by Ensemble FONOS and is also launching a series of concerts/jam sessions between young classical and jazz musicians and various communities in refugee centers, supported by EUYO’s Bauhaus Award 2024.
