Blitz The Ambassador

MC

Brooklyn, United States

With the brass of Chuck D, the sixth groove sense of Fela Kuti, and the political consciousness of both, Samuel Bazawule (a.k.a. Blitz the Ambassador) is a Ghanaian-born MC composer, producer, and visual artist based in New York City. Blitz grew up at a time when the fierce promise of Afrocentric, intellectually discerning rap was at its peak. First discovered by Ghanaian producer Hammer of The Last Two, the young MC broke out in 2000, winning an award for best new artist at the Ghana Music Awards. The following year, Blitz moved to the U.S. to study at Kent State University and eventually landed in NYC. Rooted in the golden age of hip hop, Blitz shifts between R&B and Ethiopian funk jazz without losing a beat. Blitz has released three EPs and two studio albums, most recently the critically acclaimed Native Sun (2011). Blitz the Ambassador joined OneBeat 2012 in NYC at the Bring to Light Festival.
