Suprayedno Rukaya is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, improviser, and director from Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan. With a focus on archiving and preserving the traditional musical heritage of East Kalimantan, he works as a researcher at Odah Kaminari Indonesia, focusing on the study of traditional music from Borneo through field recordings, compositions and experimental music. In addition to his musical practice, he is also a director at Wingking Griya and carries out research and documentation of the traditional music of East Kalimantan through several archives in documentary film projects. In 2023, he received a grant from the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology to conduct research and archive Tingkilan Kutai music in discography, documentary films and cultural camps in collaboration with the Art Music Today Foundation. Currently, he is exploring improvised percussion music through vocals by adapting the timbre of gamelan, kendang and other traditional Indonesian musical instruments.
