Soumaya Laghiti is a multi-instrumentalist and producer from Morocco. In defiance of the obstacles women face in Morocco, she and her all-female band SATAT are committed to the “democratization of electronic music in the MENA region”. Her aim is to inspire women and make electronic music more accessible through the use of local languages and familiar sounds. Soumaya was recently a mentor at the artistic residency FEMENA, which focused on educating women and gender minorities on electronic music production techniques and the music industry as a whole. A fierce advocate for gender equality in Morocco’s male dominated scene, she aims to create spaces for dialogues and workshops to promote knowledge sharing among female Moroccan artists.
