Ione is a playwright, director, performer, and the best-selling author of Pride of Family: Four Generations of American Women of Color(added italics), a New York Times Notable Book and one of the New York Public Library’s “25 Books to Remember.” Her other published works include Nile Night, Remembered Texts from The Deep, Listening in Dreams, and This is a Dream! She is the playwright and director of Njinga the Queen King, Io and Her and the Trouble with Him,The Lunar Opera: Deep Listening For_Tunes, and the experimental short film Dreams of the Jungfrau–all featuring music and sound design by Pauline Oliveros. A dedicated educator and counselor who specializes in dreams and the creative process, Ione conducts seminars and retreats all over the world. She is the Director of the Ministry of Maåt, an organization specializing in women and community, and Artistic Director of Deep Listening Institute in Kingston, NY. Ione joined OneBeat 2012 during our residency at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, FL.
