Ercan Bektas Ulger

Ercan Bektas Ulger is an Istanbul-based electronic music composer, percussionist, improvisor and producer. His recent academic work focuses on uncovering hidden sonic possibilities of the Clay Darbuka and Kaval, two traditional instruments used in Turkish folk music. With unexplored features in timbre, pitch and rhythmic space, he uses electronic analysis and processing tools to create previously unheard sonic soundscapes. Electroacoustics and acoustic ecology feature heavily in his practice and, with his upcoming site-specific sound installation, field recording and acousmatic music composition projects he is interested in challenging the listener to focus on sound spatiality and navigating sound objects in real and imaginary spaces.
