Dhir Mody is a renowned Indian drummer and percussionist from Mumbai, currently based in Pune. A virtuosic player, Dhir was 18 years old when he made his first contact with the drums and started studying music, but his passion and commitment led him to quit his day job and dedicate himself exclusively to music, prompting his rapid development into a solid, versatile and fluent drummer. He has played and recorded with over 30 artists from numerous different genres and also gathered experience finding and collecting sounds and textures for collaborations with theater and puppetry artists, Throughout the years, Dhir has actively participated in several socially engaged endeavors such as The Ajala Dhwani Project-Sounds, a group focused on collaborations with folk artists from remote areas of India; he is co-founder of Drumhouse, a collective promoting outdoor drum camps and educational events; he has led healing drum circles in different communities; and he has recently been a part of Found Sound Nation’s Street Studio India program, collaborating with REcharkha, a recycling organization focused on employing and educating women from the Warli tribe. Dhir approaches music with meticulous exploration and deconstruction, and is passionate about combining traditional Indian rhythms with electronic music genres like drum n bass and jungle.
