Abdallah Abozekry is a young and talented saz player from Egypt. At just 20 years old, he has already founded his own ensemble, the Abdallah Abozekry Quartet, which performs his own compositions, a blend of traditional Egyptian and folk music with a jazz flair. In addition to performing and composing, Abdallah is also dedicated to exploring ways of bringing art into the greater community. Perhaps the most impressive example is his work with The Wonder Box, a Cairo-based initiative for public art, which brings together a group of artists, architects, storytellers, and filmmakers to revive the concept of peep shows in a new context. The group has toured throughout the country, presenting the stories of local cab and microbus drivers, fictionalized and accompanied by original music to mimic the heroic narratives of old myths.
