Nursalim Yadi Scores New Documentary Film About Deforestation in Sumatra

Splash and Burn, an Artist led initiative raising awareness on the dwindling wildlife population of South East Asia, commissioned Spanish artist ESCIF to create a series of murals and art installations in the Sumatra forest that highlighted the use of palm oil in rubber plantations that has caused rapid deforestation of the area. The resulting short documentary that Splash and Burn produced was scored by 2018 Fellow Nursalim Yadi. According to Splash and Burn, they asked Nursalim to compose the music due to his “interesting approach to instrumentation and composition as a DIY ethnomusicologist, and collaborations with indigenous musicians to preserve and reinterpret their music through new compositions.”
