Congolese artist and 2012 Fellow Alesh was recently awarded the RFI Discovery Prize. Alesh was selected out of more than 1,500 artists, and was honored for his impactful, socially conscious music, his commitment to making art and his love of the African continent. Since 1981, the RFI Discovery Prize has highlighted new musical talents from the African continent. Past winners include Smarty, Marema Fall, Elida Almeida, Soul Bang’s, M’Bouillé Koité, Céline Banza, and Yvan Burava.
