“Ojkanje here and now” aims to document and collect vocal forms with elements of ojkanje in the regions where it is a living tradition (Bukovica and Ravni kotari, Lika, hinterland of central and southern Dalmatia). The project consists of archival-research, field and documentation work, and is designed as an open online archive of singers and singing styles in the mentioned regions of the Republic of Croatia.
Orzenje, orcanje, grotalica, rozgalica, vojkavica, treskavica are some of the local names for
a two-part vocal form that contains the technique of voice shaking, and which was protected by the Republic of Croatia in 2010 under UNESCO with the group name – ojkanje. It is mainly performed by older singers.
