Miguel Velazquez Matija is a bass player and singer from Colombia, with a degree in music from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. A descendant of Croatian immigrants, Miguel’s interests lie in stories of migration, and he often explores the fusion of Colombian and Croatian musical traditions, ingeniously weaving great melodies and dynamic rhythm work in his music. Miguel is an active organizer within the music community, having founded La Incubadora (The Incubator), a collective aimed at the promotion of new independent music through the production of high quality audio-visual content; and Sello Crío, a record label dedicated to Colombian jazz creation and distribution. He is the winner of the 2016 Jóvenes Talentos prize and the 2020 National Interpretation Award of Idartes.
