Born into a prestigious family of musicians, Rodney Barreto is one of Havana’s top drummers. Beginning lessons at age three, Rodney went onto to study percussion at the Guillermo Tomas School and Amadeo Roldan Conservatory. He has toured extensively throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, performing with Cuban jazz legend Chucho Valdes as well as celebrated foreign acts. A former percussion professor at Paulita Concepción School, Rodney has won several national awards including the Cubadisco Award and the National Contest for Cuban Young Jazz Players. From jazz to rock, hip-hop and salsa, Rodney Barreto has established himself one of the most exciting young drummers playing in Cuba today.
