Chiho Oka is a Tokyo-based computer musician and artist whose work is inspired by both improvisational operations and pre-written scores, programs and conditions. Chiho creates performance pieces, applications, and customized objects designed for performance out of media technologies and concepts acquired through practice and performance. Chiho is also a member of a material shop and experimental artist collective Katakishi, which collects and sells materials of value (objects, sounds, images, etc.) created during the creative process of contemporary art and left unused. As a lecturer, she runs classes at art universities in Tokyo for the creation of artworks using programming and electronics know-how, including working with the medium of sound, and contributes to the operation of the workshop as an educational research assistant. Chiho has performed and organized events online and throughout Tokyo, including live coding workshops for women and non-binary artists.
