Camille Vogley-Howes is an improviser, composer, and violinist based in Brooklyn, New York. Camille primarily uses the violin in their work, which spans jazz, folk, and experimental music. Their music emphasizes open collaboration and interaction, with a melody-driven sound that explores harmonic, formal, and textural possibilities beyond genre confines.
They are a member of Quartet Davis, a string band composed of two fiddles, a viola, cello, bass, banjo, and voices. With backgrounds in classical chamber music, fiddle traditions, and blues-based music, Quartet Davis blends original compositions, compelling arrangements, and vocal harmonies, bringing a fresh spirit of creativity to chamber music.Camille was honored with first place at the FreshGrass Fiddle Competition in 2022 and plays violin and mandolin on the national tour of the Broadway musical Girl From The North Country (2023-24). Notable performances include the Jazz Education Network (JEN) Conference, Dizzy’s Club, Cleveland Museum of Art with Henry Threadgill, and the FreshGrass Festival at Mass MoCA.
Camille teaches improvisation and fiddle styles alongside their dad at the Creative Strings Workshop, a community over twenty years in the making that fosters creativity and skill-building in string players from diverse backgrounds.
