Wisconsin-born Mark Stewart is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer, and instrument designer. A masterful guitarist and cellist, Stewart has supported experimental music legends Anthony Braxton and Philip Glass, as well pop icons Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, David Byrne, Bruce Springsteen, and James Taylor. A founding member of the acclaimed Bang on a Can All-Stars, Stewart is also one-half of the nimble-fingered duo Polygraph Lounge and performs with the Steve Reich Ensemble. Stewart has also worked with composer Eliot Goldenthal on music for feature films including The TempestAcross the Universe, and Titus. His recordings can be heard on Warner Bros., Sony/Sony Classical, Nonesuch, Label Bleu, and Resonance Magnetique. Stewart currently sits on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music. Mark Stewart joined OneBeat during our residency at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, FL.
