Dragana Tomić

Kaval Player, Vocalist

Belgrade, Serbia

Dragana Tomić is a Belgrade-based singer and musician. A pioneer of traditional kaval and one of the first women in Serbia to perform with the instrument, Dragana is a master of Balkan folk forms and self-styled “artistic nomad”. “Traditional music and culture is pointless without local communities who cherish them,” says Dragana, who has devoted years to traveling to remote regions in Southeast Europe, honing her exquisite vocal and instrumental technique. From 2010, Dragana was selected by avant-garde luminary Bob Wilson to perform in his theatre piece “The Life and Death of Marina Abromovic”.
