Ruth Danon is a singer-songwriter and flutist based in Israel. Ruth began performing and singing at a young age, though she admits, “It took years of formal music study for me to muster the courage to compose and arrange my own songs.” Her music and Hebrew lyrics draw influences from both contemporary and classical works. “My approach to music is informed by my love of language and syntax: how lyrics and music come together to create new meanings,” says Ruth. “Coming from a modern background, I became drawn to antique words and expressions and therefore experimented with singing more traditional music for a while.” Nowadays, Ruth creates modern compositions, incorporating computer, drum machine, sound effects and synth, and plays flute in various ensembles.
